Most asked questions
How large is France–Türkiye trade?
French Treasury data puts 2025 goods trade at a record €23.8bn: €11.7bn of French imports from Türkiye and €12.1bn of exports to Türkiye.
What does France buy most from Türkiye?
Automotive led in 2025 at €4.6bn or 38.9% of imports, with textiles an important second line at €1.8bn.
Does A.TR make customs duty zero?
It can support zero duty for covered goods meeting free-circulation conditions. A.TR is not proof of origin and does not remove anti-dumping, VAT or product compliance.
Does the Customs Union cover agriculture?
It covers industrial and processed agricultural goods; primary agriculture and coal and steel use separate regimes.
France–Türkiye trade reached €23.8bn in 2025
A French Treasury report based on customs data puts 2025 goods trade at a record €23.8bn. French imports from Türkiye rose 6.4% to €11.7bn, while exports to Türkiye fell 2.7% to €12.1bn, leaving France a €352.7m surplus. The scale proves a real market, but company decisions still require product-code and sub-sector evidence.
What does France buy from Türkiye?
Automotive reached €4.6bn in 2025, 38.9% of French imports from Türkiye. Textiles remained a major second line at €1.8bn despite an 8% fall. Vehicles and parts, clothing and textiles, machinery, metals and chemicals have established routes. The opportunity is not price alone: EU compliance, short lead times, smaller runs, traceability and after-sales support matter.

What does Türkiye buy from France?
French 2025 sales to Türkiye included €2.7bn in aerospace, €2.6bn in capital goods, €2.4bn in automotive and €1.3bn in chemicals. Perfume and cosmetics reached €367.5m after 19.7% growth. High-technology machinery, advanced vehicle parts, aerospace, beauty and industrial solutions remain important two-way opportunities.
What the Customs Union covers
The system in force since 1995 covers industrial products and processed agricultural goods. Covered goods meeting free-circulation conditions may receive zero duties and quotas. Primary agricultural goods, coal and steel follow separate agreements and origin rules. A broad product label is not enough; classification and composition must be checked.
A.TR is not proof of origin
A.TR proves that goods are in free circulation in Türkiye or the EU, not their economic origin. Actual origin may still be required for trade-defence measures, anti-dumping, quotas or marking. This is critical when third-country inputs are used. Even a valid A.TR does not remove CE, safety, import VAT or electronic declaration duties.
Document checklist
Commercial invoice, packing list, CMR/bill of lading/air waybill, A.TR where applicable, EORI and declaration data form the core. Depending on the product add certificate of origin, conformity declaration, technical file, laboratory tests, French labelling, health certificate or licence. Description, quantity, value, Incoterm and country data must agree across every document.
Choosing a French market-entry route
Consumer goods may use a local distributor or specialist retailer; industry may target prime contractors and tier suppliers; food needs a capable importer and cold chain; e-commerce needs EU responsibility, VAT and returns. France is not only Paris: Lyon, Toulouse, Lille, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Provence offer distinct industrial, aerospace, logistics, retail and port ecosystems.
Currency, payment and contract risk
EUR/TRY movement, long payment terms, acceptance tests and freight can erase margin. Write price adjustment, currency, delivery, tolerance, inspection, returns and dispute law into the offer. For first orders consider bank security, letters of credit, credit insurance or part payment in advance. If French and Turkish versions coexist, identify the prevailing language.
