French haircare: scalp, lengths and styling
Separate scalp, fibre and styling to choose shampoo, mask and protector without overload.
Separate scalp, fibre and styling to choose shampoo, mask and protector without overload.
Three zones, three questions
The scalp needs cleansing and comfort; lengths need conditioning and reduced breakage; styling needs hold and protection. One product may not solve all three. Describe the issue by zone and frequency before buying an entire range labelled repairing, purifying or nourishing.
Shampoo and frequency
Choose shampoo by scalp, styling-product load, activity and frequency. Massage without scratching, rinse well and observe comfort until the next wash. A strongly cleansing shampoo may feel instantly clean yet become uncomfortable, while a rich shampoo may weigh down some roots.
Conditioner and mask
Apply mainly to lengths when directed, dose by density and rinse. A mask is not automatically superior to conditioner: texture, contact time and frequency matter. Gentle detangling, a non-abrasive towel and reduced friction may improve results without another bottle.
Heat, colour and breakage
Dryers, irons, bleach, sun and tight styles alter the fibre. Use the lowest effective heat, follow protector directions and space aggressive processes. No cosmetic permanently restores destroyed fibre; it may improve feel, appearance, slip and prevention of further breakage.
When to leave the beauty aisle
Sudden shedding, patches, pain, sores, persistent itching or major scalp change need health advice. A hairdresser can advise cut, colour and styling routine but does not replace medical diagnosis. Photograph progression and list used products to give the professional useful information.
