Pharmacy or perfumery?
Pharmacies suit dermocosmetics, simple textures, reactive skin and use-based advice. General perfumeries offer comparison, makeup and sets; house boutiques and niche perfume stores spend more time on scent construction. No channel is automatically cheaper, so compare the exact product and volume.
Department stores: save time
Le Bon Marché, Printemps and Galeries Lafayette place many houses together, making it easier to compare textures and shades. Bring a short list, arrive without heavy makeup if testing products, and ask about returns for unopened goods before paying.
Test without overload
For fragrance, start on blotters, limit the session to three or four candidates, then wear the finalist on skin for several hours. For skincare, do not introduce five new actives at once. Ask for a short routine, note frequency and check warnings; prestige does not replace skin tolerance.
PABLO tax-free: useful rules
Tax-free shopping is available in particular to habitual non-EU residents aged 16 or over who stay in France for under six months. Since 2021, same-store same-day purchases must exceed €100 including tax. The retailer issues the form; goods and barcode must be presented before baggage check-in when finally leaving the EU. Not every retailer offers the service.
Authenticity and online shopping
Buy from an identifiable seller and check legal details, address, return terms, protected payment and traceability. An abnormally low price, unlimited stock of scarce items or artificial urgency are warnings. For cosmetics, inspect packaging, batch, smell, texture and seal integrity; do not use a doubtful product on skin.
