Read design families
Panthère explores animal movement and articulation; Trinity interlocks three rings; Love uses a screwed form; Juste un Clou turns a nail into line; Tank organises the case geometrically. The name is only a start. Compare thickness, weight, mobility, finish and how the piece meets skin or wrist.
Sizing and comfort
A wide ring often feels differently sized from a thin band; a rigid bracelet needs enough play without excessive rotation; a watch depends on lug-to-lug length as much as diameter. Try at normal temperature, move the hand and ask what adjustments are possible without altering the piece.
Metal, stones and finish
Yellow, rose and white gold, platinum, diamonds and coloured stones differ in care and light. Polishing removes a minute amount of material and should not be automatic. Ask about inspection frequency, recommended cleaning, impact sensitivity and documents for significant stones.
Watches and service
For a watch, identify movement, stated water resistance, strap, clasp and recommended service interval for the exact reference. Water-resistant does not mean invulnerable, especially after opening or gasket ageing. Keep service invoices and replaced parts; they help track the object without guaranteeing future value.
New, vintage and certificates
Box and papers support provenance but do not authenticate alone. In vintage, examine metal, hallmarks, stones, movement, repairs and period coherence. Compare price including fees, insurance and future service. Buy a design and use you want to wear, not a promise of appreciation.
