Ask for tax-free before paying
Retailers do not have to offer tax-free sales. Confirm the service, show the original evidence and have the PABLO export form issued for the goods.

Check the threshold on the form
The current customs procedure states a total strictly above €100 including VAT at the same retailer or retail group over no more than three days. Another customs page still retains the older ‘same day’ wording, so have the retailer confirm how the purchases will be grouped before buying.

Most asked questions
Where should you buy beauty products in Paris?
Use pharmacies for dermocosmetics, perfumeries for curated or niche brands, and department stores for broad comparison. Verify stock, price and authorised retailer status that day.
Who is eligible for tax-free shopping in France?
In general, qualifying short-term visitors whose permanent residence is outside the EU can use the scheme. Eligibility, purchase threshold and export follow French customs rules.
How does the tax-free process work?
Have the form issued with passport and residence details and keep the goods and documents. Confirm the responsible validation airport with customs before bag drop: the length of an EU connection and access to the goods and customs desk may require the initial airport rather than the final EU airport.
Pharmacy or perfumery?
Pharmacies suit dermocosmetics, simple textures, reactive skin and use-based advice. General perfumeries offer comparison, makeup and sets; house boutiques and niche perfume stores spend more time on scent construction. No channel is automatically cheaper, so compare the exact product and volume.
Department stores: save time
Le Bon Marché, Printemps and Galeries Lafayette place many houses together, making it easier to compare textures and shades. Bring a short list, arrive without heavy makeup if testing products, and ask about returns for unopened goods before paying.

Test without overload
For fragrance, start on blotters, limit the session to three or four candidates, then wear the finalist on skin for several hours. For skincare, do not introduce five new actives at once. Ask for a short routine, note frequency and check warnings; prestige does not replace skin tolerance.
PABLO tax-free: useful rules
Tax-free shopping is available in particular to habitual non-EU residents aged 16 or over who stay in the EU for under six months. The current customs procedure requires a VAT-inclusive total strictly above €100 at the same retailer or retail group over no more than three days; another customs page still carries the older ‘same day’ wording. Ask the retailer to confirm the grouping and issue the PABLO form. Keep goods and documents available and confirm the responsible customs airport before bag drop: EU connection length and access to the goods or customs desk can require the initial airport rather than the final EU airport.
Authenticity and online shopping
Buy from an identifiable seller and check legal details, address, return terms, protected payment and traceability. An abnormally low price, unlimited stock of scarce items or artificial urgency are warnings. For cosmetics, inspect packaging, batch, smell, texture and seal integrity; do not use a doubtful product on skin.
