A house built through silhouette
Dior's history is first read through shoulder, waist, volume and length. The 1947 New Look established a reference silhouette, but later creative directions quoted, challenged or simplified it. When viewing a collection, observe overall proportion before accessories; that is where dialogue with the archive becomes visible.
Couture and ateliers
Couture rests on pattern, toile fitting, adjustment and hours of handwork. Embroidery, pleating, feathers and artificial flowers may involve highly specialised outside ateliers. Technique determines drape, light and longevity, not merely decoration. Craft videos are most useful when you watch the steps rather than only the final reveal.
Product codes
Cannage, star, lily of the valley, toile de Jouy and the 30 Montaigne address circulate across fashion, leather, jewellery and home. A repeated code may dominate one season and recede the next. Judge how it is made: stitching, weaving, embroidery, metal and print do not offer the same feel or durability.
