Choose the right district
Faubourg Saint-Honoré concentrates heritage houses; Avenue Montaigne is more theatrical; Place Vendôme centres jewellery and watches; department stores make comparison easy under one roof. The Marais and parts of the Left Bank work better for independent labels and design.
Appointments and availability
For a specific piece, contact the official boutique and ask whether an appointment helps. Online availability does not guarantee store stock, or the reverse. Never pay an intermediary to reserve a place or bypass a waiting list.
Compare before buying
Where permitted, record the reference label and note dimensions, material, colour, care and returns. Compare cost per use, not just price: a fragile shoe or overly heavy bag can be a poor purchase despite its desirability.
Tax-free shopping without confusion
Eligibility depends on habitual residence, purchase amount, the retailer and actual departure from the EU. Ask about the process before paying, check the name and passport on the form, keep goods available for inspection and allow time at the airport.
After-sales service
Ask where alterations, repairs, care and warranty will be handled once you return home. Store the invoice, reference and care advice separately from the packaging. After-sales service is part of a luxury house’s real value.
