Different risks by region
Heatwaves hit dense cities, drought weakens soil and farming, while erosion and sea-level rise threaten parts of the coast. Climate policy is therefore a patchwork of local responses rather than one national remedy.
Cooling the cities
Trees, permeable ground, greener schoolyards, insulation and cooling spaces are becoming essential urban infrastructure. The priority is to protect the homes, districts and residents most exposed.
The next challenge
Adaptation now shapes property, transport, insurance, healthcare and municipal budgets. The biggest choices are not only technical: they concern where building remains sensible and how water and space are shared.
