Inflation, growth, jobs and consumption: what the latest figures actually say.
Inflation, growth, jobs and consumption: what the latest figures actually say.
The big picture
Inflation reached 2.4% year on year in August. GDP was flat in the second quarter and unemployment stood at 8.3%, although household goods consumption rose 0.5% in July.
What businesses report
The Banque de France survey points to expected acceleration in industry, market services and construction. That does not erase weak growth or pressure on household purchasing power.
What to watch this autumn
Jobs, real wages, business investment and the durability of household spending are the next tests. The Banque de France's June projection still placed 2026 growth near 0.5%.
